Keep Your Pet at Bay With an Electric Dog Fence by Russ Elderman

Having a very energetic pet can bring a host of problems to its owner. First, he can be lost outside your property and might even damage somebody else’s possessions along the way. Then there is the possibility of your dog getting into an accident. This may even reflect to the capability of an owner to really take care of a pet.

There are several ways to keep your pet, but the best choice would be an electric dog fence. It is a safe way not just in containing your dog but also in training them not cross into other people’s property.

What Is an Electric Dog Fence?

An electric dog fence basically uses radio signals and a receiver attached in a dog’s collar to keep track of the dog. For most systems, a transmitter is a device that broadcasts the signal around your house. Depending on the size you have set in the transmitter, your dog will be able to roam around freely. If he is at the boundary zone or trying to get past it, a warning sound will come from his collar, and after a few seconds, a mild static correction will be delivered.

No Physical Fence Required

One of the best features an electric dog fence has is there is no need for a physical fence. In fact, it creates an invisible fence around your property. The secret here is the radio signal coming from the transmitter. The safe play area is where the signal can be detected by the receiver. The boundary zone is the point where the signal is considerably weak and will be marked by flags to warn the dogs early on. The receiver only triggers the alarm and the succeeding correction only when it doesn’t detect the signal anymore. This is ideal for home owners who do not like the idea of building a fence for aesthetic purposes and for the simple fact that their dogs would simply jump over them.

Safe for Dogs

The mild static correction is a consequence for your pet and is never meant to physically punish him. The fact that there is a warning sound means there is still some time before your pet can get back inside the safe play area. In the event that he is unable to get back to the play area, the static correction also turns off after a few seconds. The receiver is also quipped with a control knob to adjust the correction in order to match the comfort level of your pet. These receivers are often advised to be worn only for pets weighing more than 8 pounds and can understand simple commands.

Training

The main goal of the system is to train your dog to fully understand the idea of boundaries and areas permitted to play. The fact that there are boundary flags and warning sound help your pets make the association. Packages often come with a training manual that helps you schedule your sessions with the transmitter on. This makes it superior to other pet containment systems.
