The purest deposits are found in the Lea County New Mexico which is not far from the Carlsbad deposits. It is about 80% pure. Belorussian comes next after Russia and Canada in the extraction of potash. The province of Saskatchewan in Canada has the big deposits in the whole of Canada.
In the 20th century, the to ranking sources of the deposits were in Crescent localities and this is found mainly in the Dallon Depression in Musely and the Ethiopian-Eritrean border. Crescent produces an estimated amount of 173 million tonnes and the Musely has about 12 million tonnes. Surface mining is mainly practiced in this region and is highly profitable. In 1967, the floods stopped the mining of Musely, which was started in the 1960s. The Eritrean-Ethiopian war also stopped the mining in the 1990s and it had not yet been restarted by 2009.
