The other method does not use wires at all and relies on a transmitter that creates a signal around the property. Since it comes out in all directions, the play area and boundary are circular. However, the play area can be as long as 10 feet wide while the largest play area is a staggering 180 feet long. This is because that signal can actually be adjusted using the switches in the transmitter.
Using the Receivers Differently
The receiver on a wired Petsafe radio fence does not detect any signal when inside the play area. The receiver for the wireless Petsafe radio fence always detects the signal. But the when the dog passes the boundary, the receiver gets triggered.

The mild static correction has never been used to punish your pets that got past the boundary. It is simply utilized to call him out, so he can go back to his original path. The discomfort that he will feel is also temporary and is completely adjustable through the receiver. To add protection to your dog, the receiver is advised to be worn only by dogs that are nine pounds or heavier and have undergone simple training.
